Frequently Asked Questions

At Roloff Retirement Solutions, we know that working with a financial advisor is one of those pivotal life decisions – a milestone on your financial journey that can dictate the route of your financial future. It can be tough to know where to start when selecting a financial advisor to work with. Here are some of the key questions you should ask.

How can partnering with Roloff Retirement Solutions help me?

As your trusted financial advisory firm, our mission is to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to make educated financial decisions. To accomplish this, we combine our experience in the financial services industry with quality investments and the latest information and technology available.

We strive to present information in a straightforward, understandable manner so that, together with you, we can determine the most appropriate options available for your portfolios. We constantly consider changes in both the marketplace and your needs, making necessary adjustments to help address your goals.

What is your investment philosophy?

We believe in a disciplined process of asset allocation using professional money managers, whether through mutual funds or private managed accounts. Using both quantitative and qualitative research, we select managers based on historical performance, risk measures, investment process, manager experience, and company culture.

Investments are blended together based on your risk tolerance and objectives, and considers investment correlation to reduce risk on a portfolio level. Once selected, managers are monitored and evaluated regularly, and adjustments are made as necessary (short-term performance is NOT necessarily a reason for change). Portfolios are dynamically rebalanced, attempting to take advantage of market fluctuations and volatility. Tax implications are always considered where applicable. Portfolios may be unequally balanced between non-qualified (taxable) and qualified (tax-deferred) accounts to take advantage of the differing taxation of various investments.

Of course, there is no guarantee that a diversified portfolio will enhance overall returns or outperform a non-diversified portfolio. Diversification does not ensure against market risk. No strategy can assure a profit or protect against a loss.

What are your team’s core beliefs and how do they influence the guidance you provide?

  • Relationships with family and friends are the most important aspect of life.
  • Integrity and honesty are the most important things we have to offer you.
  • Knowledge is essential; continuing education and credentials should be expected.
  • Technology can be used to increase productivity, decrease costs, and simplify your life.
  • Our success is measured only by your satisfaction.
  • You should know what service to expect, and receive what you expect.
  • The better we know you, the better we can serve you.
  • You deserve the resources of a major Wall Street firm delivered with the personal touch of a boutique local firm.
  • Investing is a disciplined process – while we are always looking for new ideas, we don’t chase “hot” or “fad” investments.
  • We do not add value by individual security selection, but by disciplined and well informed, unemotional decision making.

Why Commonwealth Financial Network®?

The fact that we have chosen to work with Commonwealth Financial Network®, an independent Registered Investment Adviser, means our firm remains independent as well. We are free to act in your best interest, without pressure to promote a particular product or strategy. It is a model that differs from some other larger financial firms, whose financial representatives are accountable not just to their clients, but also to the parent company that employs them.

What if something happens to Ryan Roloff?

It is important to note that while Ryan builds asset allocation and financial plans – he uses professionally managed funds (mutual funds, ETF’s, REITs, etc.) He is not actively trading any portfolios daily – so most funds are still being managed whether he is in the office or not. As for servicing needs, the staff of his office can handle many requests such as deposits or withdrawals, address changes, etc. If a trade does need to be placed, they will contact a licensed representative within the Commonwealth Financial Network® organization.

Should Ryan not be returning to the office – we do not currently have a formal succession plan in place – but Commonwealth has many other local advisors that we will be meeting with to setup a formal succession plan. Your accounts would be serviced by another Commonwealth supervisor or advisor – but you would also be free to transfer accounts to another local advisor if you wish. This really isn’t any different than any large Wall Street firm – except that the location of the office would change. Ryan does plan on living and working for at least another 25 years – and if we can find the right fit for a formal succession plan – we will put that in place.

“We have worked with Ryan since 2007 before he formed his own company. We have found him to be very trustworthy, detail oriented, and always thinking about the best interests of our financial future. Ryan has consistently given us good advice which has proved out in the long run. He has multiple certifications related to the financial world and has never stopped keeping up with the latest investment, tax and insurance opportunities, rules, and laws. Ryan has been a great help now that we are retired, and we consider him to be a friend.”
